मनुष्य केवल मात्र जड़ -पदार्थ नहीं बल्कि एक शक्ति का स्रोत है

` महर्षि दयानंद , जिनका नाम मूल शंकर था , उन्होंने धर्मशास्त्रो का , वेदों का काफी अध्ययन किया | एक दिन उन्होंने सुना कि एक अंधा आदमी है जो पूर्ण गुरु है और जो उन्हें आत्मा का ज्ञान प्रदान कर सकता है | तब वे स्वामी बिरजानंद जी के पास जाते है | रात्रि का समय हो गया था , दरवाजा बंद था | जब दरवाजा खटखटाते है तो अन्दर से आवाज़ आती है कि कौन है ? कहा महाराज ! अगर मुझे यही पता होता कि '' मै कौन हु '' तो मै आपके दरवाजे पर नहीं आता | मै नहीं जनता कि '' मै कौन हु '' और इसलिए आपके चरणों में आया हु कि आप मुझे जना दे कि वास्तव में मै ''मै क्या हूँ '' | तब गुरु महाराज जी ने उन्हें अन्दर आ जाने कि आज्ञा दी और बाद में गुरु महाराज कि सेवा कर उन्होंने आत्मज्ञान कि प्राप्ति कि |
` आज जब हम अपने शरीर को देखते है तो यही कहते है कि यह हमारा जो शरीर है यह केवल हाड़-मांस का एक पुतला है | विज्ञान ने भी बहुत- कुछ अनुसंधान करके अपना निष्कर्ष दे दिया है कि मनुष्य क्या है ? उसका कहना है कि इसमें कुछ रसायनिक पदार्थ  है और इसके अन्दर एक शक्तिशाली मोटर  लगी है जिसे दिल कहते है ; तथा हमारे मस्तिष्क को उन्होंने एक कंप्यूटर कि उपमा दी जो कि हमारे के सारे पुर्जों को नियंत्रित करता है | इस प्रकार वैज्ञानिकों का दृष्टिकोण है कि मनुष्य केवलमात्र एक मशीन कि भांति है जिसमे अनेक प्रकार के कल -पुर्जे लगे हुए है |
` परन्तु वास्तव में , मनुष्य केवल मात्र जड़ -पदार्थ नहीं बल्कि एक शक्ति का स्रोत है जिसे '' आत्मा '' कहा गया जो कि इस भौतिक जगत से परे कि चीज है , जिसे पराभौतिक तत्व  कहा गया | इस पराभौतिक तत्व को जानने के लिए हमें अध्यात्मिक पुरुषों कि शरण में जाना होंगा जो कि हमें आत्मज्ञान प्रदान कर यह जाना दे कि सचमुच में ''हम क्या है'' |
